Frequently asked questions

What is Recipe & Memory Book?
Recipe & Memory Book is a family recipe app at recipes.gerrardfamily.com. Save recipes with photos, seasons, and memory stories — a digital recipe book built for food heritage, not meal planning.
How does recipe photo upload work?
Take a clear photo of your recipe card — printed or handwritten — and upload it in Recipe & Memory Book. We use AI to read legible text and fill in title, ingredients, and steps. You review every field before saving.
How accurate is recipe photo transcription?
We transcribe all legible text from your photo. Clear lighting and a flat card give the best results. Faded ink, heavy stains, or illegible cursive may need manual edits — you always review before saving.
Is it free?
Yes — the free tier includes 30 recipes, 20 memories, and 50 photos. No credit card required. Premium ($5/mo or $49/yr) adds higher limits and an ad-free experience.
Why not just use Google Docs?
Docs are unstructured. Recipe & Memory Book gives you recipe fields, photos, household sharing, and memory stories purpose-built for family food heritage.
How is this different from Ancestry?
Ancestry focuses on family trees and records. Recipe & Memory Book complements your tree by preserving the kitchen — who passed down the dish, the gathering, and the notes on the card.
Is this a meal planner or grocery app?
No. This is a memory book for family recipes and food heritage — stories and generations, not grocery lists or diet tracking.
Is there a mobile app?
Recipe & Memory Book is a web app — use it in your browser on phone, tablet, or desktop. There is no iOS App Store or Google Play listing in v1. You can bookmark or add to your home screen.
Are there ads?
The free tier may show web ads when logged in. Premium (when billing ships) is ad-free. Marketing funnel pages are ad-free.
Is it safe for kids?
Households are adult-supervised. See our privacy policy for COPPA-aligned practices. Children should use the app with a parent or guardian.
What works today vs coming soon?
Today: save and browse recipes, photos, seasons, memories, households, and share links. Search, export, and billing features are on the roadmap and labeled honestly in the app.
Can I export my recipes?
Your family owns the content you add. Full export and backup are not available yet — they are on the roadmap. Contact us via the feedback link if export is urgent for your household.
I will digitize everything someday — why start now?
Start with one recipe while the story is still fresh. Ingredients can be looked up again; who taught you and why it mattered is harder to recover. The free tier costs nothing to save that first card.
Why is the free tier free?
Recipe & Memory Book is a family-built tool. The free tier is supported by optional web ads. We do not sell your recipe data. Premium (when billing ships) is ad-free with higher limits.
Why would I pay for Premium?
When billing ships, Premium ($5/mo) removes ads and raises limits for households that outgrow the free tier. The free tier remains for trying the memory book.
Do I need to download an app?
No install required — open recipes.gerrardfamily.com in your browser. Bookmark it or add to your home screen for quick access.
